Bayfront Doctor Arrested on Child Porn Charges

Tampa Police say James Murphy, an anesthesiologist at Bayfront Medical Center, is charged with 33 counts of possession of child pornography.

An anesthesiologist at Bayfront Medical Center faces 33 counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Tampa Police Department. 

James Murphy, 49, was arrested Wednesday by Tampa police. Investigators found images of child pornography on Murphy's home computer, police said.

In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, a Bayfront spokeswoman said Murphy has been employed at the hospital since 2005.

According to Bay News 9, Murphy has been placed on administrative leave by the hospital. 

Police said that on Feb. 2 that they received a tip about the pornography, which led to a search warrant at Murphy's home, at 6601 South Westshore Boulevard, Tampa.

According to police, detectives recovered numerous electronic devices from inside the suspect's home and submitted them for forensic review.  

During the investigation, it was determined that an iMac computer located in the suspect's bedroom had 33 images of child pornography on its hard drive, according to Tampa Police.

Investigators also found a "Stranger Danger" video, according to Bay News 9, which gives tips to youngsters for protect themselves from strangers who may post a danger to them.

Detectives met with the State Attorney's Office after the investigation was completed to confirm the child pornography charges.  

Murphy was arrested at his home on April 11 and charged with 33 counts of possession of child pornography.
