Bicyclist Dies After Getting Run Over While Lying in Street

Authorities say for unknown reasons, Richard Ullom and the bicycle he was operating were laying in the path of Atkins.

A St. Petersburg is man is dead after being run over while lying in the street. 

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a car driven by Bernard Atkins was traveling south on 11th Street North approaching 70th Avenue north when he hit 62-year-old Richard Ullom.

Authorities say for unknown reasons, Ullom and the bicycle he was operating were lying in the path of Atkins.

Highway Patrol said Atkins, 54, was not able to see Ullom due to other traffic, which had already swerved to miss Ullom.  According to the incident report, Ullom suffered fatal injuries due to the accident and died at the scene of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
