On Monday night the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said a dead woman was found inside a La Quinta Motel in the Lealman area.
Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office announced that it suspects foul play in the death of 24-year-old Destynee Nekole Burkes of Gulfport.
Deputies responded to the La Quinta Inn, located at 4999 34th St. N, Monday afternoon after motel staff discovered a female patron deceased in her room.
As crime scene specialists processed the room, authorities said it was discovered foul play might have been a contributing factor in Burkes' death.
Homicide detectives are currently following up on several leads obtained from witness accounts and evidence collected at the crime scene, a news release said.
