Police Investigate Robbery Near El Cap Restaurant

Police said a woman's purse was robbed while she was walking across the street at 35th Avenue North near 4th Street on May 11.

According to St. Petersburg Police on May 11, a 72-year-old woman robbed while walking north across 35th Avenue North near the area of The El Cap Restaurant on 4th Street. 

Police said an unknown suspect approached the victim from behind and grabbed her purse. The suspect is described as black male in his early 20s, 5'08-5'10, weighing 180 lbs and last seen wearing a black tank top, dark shorts and flip flops. 

That suspect, police said, was also accompanied by another suspect and both men fled to a nearby waiting vehicle, which is described as a dark colored, 1980's Sedan, driven by two other unidentified suspects.

Shortly after the robbery the two suspects used the victim's credit cards to purchase video gaming equipment at the Walmart store located at 201 34th St. N. Police said the suspects also used the cards at the Walgreens store located at 3350 Central Ave.

From surveillance video inside Walmart police describe the second suspect as a white male, in his early 20's, 5'05"-5'08" and weighing 150 lbs. Police said he was last seen wearing a Miami heat baseball cap, black t-shirt and white shorts.
