Man Killed at Gas Station, Police Release Surveillance Video of Suspect

A man was shot to death at a St. Petersburg BP gas station.

St. Petersburg Police have released surveillance video from a BP gas station that shows two men getting into a verbal altercation moments before one of the men is shot to death just after midnight Friday.

According to police, the victim, 21-year-old Caleb Scott, and the suspect get into an argument as Scott is entering the store at 753 5th Ave. S.

In the video the suspect opens the door to the BP gas station, but stops and turns towards Scott. Police said it appears the two exchange words as Scott (who is wearing a white horizontal striped shirt) walks past the suspect and into the store.

Scott, now standing in the doorway, turns back to face the suspect as the two continue to exchange words. That is when police said the suspect pulls out a handgun and shoots Scott multiple times in the chest.

The shooting was captured in the surveillance video but the video above cuts just before the shooting.

Police said it is unclear if Scott and the suspect knew each other prior to the shooting.

Investigators are also looking for a female seen with the suspect. After the shooting, the suspect and the female fled the area on foot, police said.

Police said since the two were not seen arriving or leaving in a car. Authorities said that could mean the suspect and female may may live or have acquaintances in the near-by neighborhood.

As the suspect fled, police said he dropped his hat, which was been recovered by police.

Aside from the man seen wearing the green outfit standing near the counter and the store clerk, detectives are also interested in identifying various individuals seen in and outside the store at the time of the shooting.

According to police the suspect is a thin black male in his late teens to early 20's, is seen in the video wearing a white tank top, black hat with white writing on the front and black pants.

Anyone who can identify the suspect, the female accompanying him or any other individual seen in the video, can contact Detective Kenny Miller at 727-214-4536 or the non-emergency number at 727-893-7780, Text-A-Tip to 727-420-8911 or leave a confidential tip at 727-892-5000.
