Memorial Services Set for Asst. Police Chief's Daughter Killed in Afghanistan

Last week, St. Petersburg Police announced that Brittany Gordon, daughter of St. Petersburg Assistant Police Chief Cedric Gordon, died serving in the U.S. Army overseas in Afghanistan. 

Brittany Gordon, according to police, died Oct. 13, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked her unit with an improvised explosive device. She was assigned to the 572 Military Intelligence Company, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington. 

On Monday, the department released a statement regarding memorial service plans. 

• Army Spc. Brittany Gordon's body is scheduled to arrive at MacDill Air Force Base on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. A motorcade comprised of members of the St. Petersburg Police Department and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office will escort Brittany's casket to the Lawson Funeral Home, 4535 Central Ave.
• A memorial service for Army Spc. Brittany Gordon will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, in the Wireman Chapel at Eckerd College, 4200 54th Ave. The public is invited.
• The wake service for Army Spc. Brittany Gordon will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 1301 37th St. S. 
• The funeral service for Army Spc. Brittany Gordon will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 1301 37th St. S.

Last week, Police Chief Chuck Harmon said the news shook the department. 

"This loss is devastating. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chief Gordon and his family during this time of unimaginable grief," Harmon in a statement. "We know that the coming days will be extremely difficult and we will stand by ready to offer our support to Chief Gordon and his family in whatever manner possible."
