A national search for a missing teen from Valrico has come
to an end today, June 19, following a police chase in Grosse Tete, La.
People at a truck stop in that town recognized Steven Patrick Myers, 41, a registered sex offender from Georgia, and Lyons and called the Iberville Sheriff’s Office. When police arrived, they spotted the two in a flatbed truck and tried to pull it over, an email to media from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office stated.
Myers refused to pull over and led deputies on a chase. Hillsborough deputies say he struck four other vehicles in an attempt to create a blockage behind him. In the end, deputies were able to use stop sticks to blow out his tires.
When Myers’ truck came to a stop, he jumped out with a knife and told deputies to shoot him. He was arrested and taken to a hospital for “what’s believed to be two self-inflicted stab wounds and K9 dog bites,” Hillsborough deputies said.
Lyon was found inside the truck with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a hospital in Lafayette, La., where she is in critical condition.
Lyon was reported missing June 11, sparking a national search. She is said to have met Myers through his teen sons who lived in the same subdivision as the girl, The Tampa Tribune reported.
