Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by Taxi

St. Petersburg Police say a man crossing 4th Street at Central Avenue was hit by a taxi.

A St. Petersburg man is dead after being hit by a taxi while he was crossing 4th Street near Central Avenue. 

According to St. Petersburg Police, an Independent Taxi Cab driven by Wesley Brown was southbound on 4th Street North in the middle lane approaching Central Avenue. 

An unidentified man, police said, was attempting to cross from the west to the east curb of 4th Street North just south of Central Avenue. The taxi crossed the intersection and collided with the pedestrian in the mid block just south of Central Avenue.

Police said the pedestrian was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just after 4 a.m. Sunday.

No charges have been filed at this time. The name of the pedestrian will be released after next of kin are notified.
