Pedestrian Killed in Car Crash

St. Petersburg Police said there are no charges pending in this crash.

A St. Petersburg man is dead after he was hit by a truck Tuesday in the 3600 block of Dr Martin Luther King Jr Street South. 

According to St. Petersburg Police, 32-year-old Nelson Sparrow "took off running, eastbound, past several construction barrels, toward the northbound lanes of Dr Martin Luther King Jr Street."

Police said as Sparrow neared the street he tried to stop before running into the path of a Chevrolet truck, but he was unable to slow down. 

The Chevrolet struck Sparrow with the right front corner, projecting him onto the pavement, where Sparrow struck his head, according to police

Sparrow, police said, was transported to Bayfront Medical Center in life threatening condition. He was pronounced dead Thursday. 

Police said there are no charges pending in this crash.
