Update: Deputy U.S. Marshal Accidentally Shoots Self at St. Pete Gun Range

An employee of the U.S. Marshals Service suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper leg at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office shooting range, officials said.

Update: 1:45 p.m.:

A group of U.S. Marshals employees were conducting shooting exercises at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office gun range around 9 a.m. Wednesday when one of them suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper leg, according to a news release.

Officials are not releasing the name of the person due to their current work assignment. The person is a deputy marshal, a spokesperson told the Tampa Bay Times.

 

Earlier:

An employee of the U.S. Marshals Service was injured when a gun accidentally went off at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office shooting range in St. Petersburg, authorities said Wednesday.

Deputies were on scene at the gun range at 11700 34th St. N. in St. Petersburg on Wednesday morning, according to a news release.

The person was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, a sheriff's office spokesperson said.

No further information was immediately available.

Barring chemically unstable ammunition that spontaneously ignites- incidents where guns “accidently went off” are caused by human error, negligence, or ignorance.

That's not as amazing/amusing as the gal in East Manatee who shot her fiance in the leg while trying to scoop a piece of hot .45 brass out of the front of her blouse. Apparently that .45 case wanted to meet her .38's. Lady, button that top button to save burning your girls.
