David Charles Willey, 21, of New Port Richey, was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with an apparent homicide at a St. Petersburg motel, police say.

According to officials, an employee at the Candlelight Inn at 3405 34th St. N found a dead body in one of the rooms around 10:30 Thursday morning.

The homicide victim has not been fully identified but is believed to be a 19-year-old male of Middle Eastern descent, according to a media release.

St. Petersburg Police Detectives say Willey met with the victim at the motel and accompanied him to his room sometime last night. Once inside, detectives believe Willey stabbed the victim multiple times in the upper body with a knife and then left the room. A knife was recovered at the scene.

Motel security cameras captured images of the suspect and victim
entering the room together and then the suspect leaving the room alone, according to officials.

Police say a motive for the murder has not yet been established.

Willey is being charged with first degree murder.
