Police: Drug Round-Up in Williams Park Underway

Following a three-month investigation, St. Petersburg Police started sweeping through the city's downtown area Thursday arresting people who face illegal drug charges.

St. Petersburg Police Officers are searching Thursday for at least 20 individuals from the city's downtown area on a variety of illegal drug charges, according to a press release.

Officers began looking for these people around 10:30 Thursday morning. Officers are targeting the city's downtown area, including

Williams Park, today, arresting individuals who face a variety of charges including the sale and possession of marijuana, methadone, morphine, hydromorphone, dilaudid, crack cocaine, powdered cocaine and heroin, according to police.

In January 2013 the St. Petersburg Police Department's Vice and Narcotics Unit
began investigating a number of complaints regarding illegal drug sales and
drug use in the downtown area. Many of the complaints specified problems in
Williams Park.

Since that time, undercover detectives with the department's Vice and
Narcotics Unit have developed cases on at least 20 individuals, according to police spokesperson Mike Puetz.

Puetz hopes to have a complete list of the names and charges of individuals arrested later today.

Hope this is true. I have not seen the St. Pete police do much about this. When I call them they seem to not care.

In the very near future, we will have 1000 new apartments within walking distance of Williams Park. I'd venture to say, as of today we have more than 50 dogs living downtown within a four block area of Williams. With the present count of dogs and the many more to come in the new apartments, lets turn William's into a Dog Park.
It wouldn't always have to remain a Dog Park, but for now it could be the solution to a huge problem for all downtown residents. It needs to be fenced one way or another. Cecelia

You could fence part as a dog park. but I don't think it's big enough. You have to deal with the problems. You can't just fence it off. Then no one gets to enjoy it then. Besides, next you'll be calling for Mirror Lake and Straub parks to be fenced.

I love Kahwa coffee and the nice folks that own and run it. They have been great citizens of St.Read More Pete. If you have not tried it, you should do so.
