Roommate Fatally Stabbed with Butcher Knife, Police Say

St. Petersburg Police charged Corey Lamont Walker with second-degree murder after he accused his roommate of taking food from his room and then stabbed him to death.

A St. Petersburg man has been charged with second-degree murder after he allegedly stabbed his roommate while arguing over missing food.

According to St. Petersburg Police, Corey Lamont Walker stabbed Anthony Kimball Smith in the chest with a butcher knife Tuesday morning after the two began arguing when Walker accused Smith of stealing food from his room.

That food, according to the Tampa Bay Times, was a corn dog.

After Walker, 36, allegedly stabbed Smith, one of the other residents of the home at 2860 1st Ave. S. ran outside and approached a passerby asking him to call the police.

Walker and Smith, 56, lived together at the home, which serves as transitional housing operated by the New Faith Free Methodist Church. Two other men also reside at that location and were identified as witnesses.

Police said officers arriving on the scene found Smith inside the home, where he was treated by St. Petersburg Fire Rescue and then transported to Bayfront Medical Center. He was later pronounced deceased at 10:17 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers found Walker inside and he was taken into custody without resistance, police said.

The knife used in the alleged homicide was recovered from the kitchen sink.

That's absolutely awful. My roommate is from the inner San Diego area, in California and a similar situation happened to him, he lived Chula Vista during College (don't ask me why) but, just a really terrible story.

I love Kahwa coffee and the nice folks that own and run it. They have been great citizens of St.Read More Pete. If you have not tried it, you should do so.
