Police: Shooting Fireworks in St. Pete is Illegal

Police warn residents not to shoot of fireworks or guns into the air.

As the U.S. celebrates Independence Day, the St. Petersburg Police Department is reminding residents that shooting fireworks, and celebratory gunfire, is illegal in St. Petersburg.

"Illegal fireworks and celebratory gun fire can cause serious injuries and property damage. So please don't use fireworks that go up or blow up and don't shoot your guns into the air," the department wrote on its Facebook page.

"July 4th tends to be a very busy holiday for the police department due to celebratory bullets causing property damage and sometimes injury," police said.
