A senior citizen who was hospitalized after a Monday morning hit-and-run accident died from his injuries Wednesday.
St. Petersburg police say that Michael Anthony Cerone, 74, was ejected from his vehicle after it by a car allegedly driven by Lorenzo Lynch. Police allege that Lynch, driving southbound on 16th St. in a 1998 Mitsubishi, drove through a red light at First Ave. South, slamming into a 1997 Pontiac driven by Cerone, who lived at 550 1st Ave. South.
The impact was so severe that Cerone, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his vehicle. Lynch left the scene on foot and police also believe he was injured due to blood found at the scene.
Lynch, of 556 71 Ave. North, is also on probation for burglary. Police say he contacted friends and family and confirmed he was injured and has not sought treatment as he does not want to be placed in jail again.
Lynch remains at large. He is wanted for Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Bodily Injury and Driving While License Suspended or Revoked while Causing a Serious Injury Crash.
