St. Pete Police Investigate School Bus Crash

Police cited the driver of the school bus for failing to yield at a stop sign.

St. Petersburg Police are investigating a crash involving a school bus that happened Monday at 62nd Avenue South and 7th Street.

According to St. Petersburg Police, a school bus carrying 13 students from University Prep Academy was south bound on 7th Street when it failed to yield to a Pontiac Sunfire that was going west on 62nd Avenue South.

The Pontiac, police said, hit the side of the bus. The driver of the Pontiac was trapped inside her car and had to be rescued by firefighters.

"I am told that there were no serious injuries," said St. Pete Police PIO Mike Puetz. "Only three of the thirteen students on the bus complained of minor injuries, but contrary to information I received earlier, they did not go to the hospital. They were checked out by Fire Rescue and later picked up by their parents."

The driver of the Pontiac was taken to a local hospital, but none of her injuries are considered serious, according to the police report.
