Bullet Strikes 18-Year-Old Woman in Head

An 18-year-old woman is in the hospital after authorities say she suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound early Sunday morning, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

UPDATE: The 18-year-old woman injured in a shooting that occurred on 6600 block of 14th Street North in St. Petersburg around 3 a.m. Sunday, has been identified as Rubi Yajaira Rosado, of Riverview.

According to the report, Rosado and a group of men, including her boyfriend, had driven to the 14th Street address to resume an ongoing dispute with the residents.

Police said Rosado remained in the vehicle, however a fight reportedly broke out between several men in front of the home and an individual among the group began firing a weapon.

One of the stray bullets stuck Rosado in the head, the report said. Her boyfriend jumped in the car and took her away from the scene, stopping at a Checkers to call for assistance. 

Detectives are still in the process of attempting to identify the individual
responsible for the shooting and no criminal charges have been filed.

ORIGINAL: Authorities are investigating the shooting of an 18-year-old woman that occurred on 6600 block of 14th Street North in St. Petersburg around 3 a.m., according to a report.

St. Petersburg Police Officers received several calls from neighbors that shots had been fired, a report states. While enroute, police officers received information that the victim of the shooting had arrived at the Checkers, 6200 Dr. Martin Luther King St. S.

The woman was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg hospital where she is recovering, a report said.
