Tampa Police Chase Alleged Car Thief into St. Pete

The suspect, Gregory Deonte Brinson of St. Pete, was arrested in south St. Pete after leading police on a chase from Tampa.

When Tampa Police tried to stop a stolen 2010 Ford 150 pick-up truck early Wednesday morning, two passengers bailed from the car and the driver led police on a 30-mile car chase that ended in South St. Petersburg. 

The two fleeing passengers, Lebaron Woods and Landrick Edwards were arrested outside the vehicle. The driver, 23-year-old Gregory Deonte Brinson, took off onto I-275. 

According to Tampa Police, the pursuit headed southbound on I-275 across the Howard Franklin Bridge and into St. Petersburg. The Ford truck exited
from the highway at 15th Avenue South, then to the area of 11th Avenue South north of Fargo Street South.

At that point, police said Brinson fled from the vehicle and was then chased to the address of 1227 Fargo Avenue South and was arrested inside the residence. 

The incident began Wednesday, while at 15th Street and Fowler Avenue, after Tampa Police Officer G. Bricha observed a red 2010 Ford 150 pick-up truck with a Mississippi tag that was reported stolen.

Passengers Woods, 21 and Edwards, 23, were charged with trespass of conveyance. Brinson was charged with burglary auto/grand theft auto, resisting officer without violence and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

According to the police report, Brinson and Woods from St. Petersburg. 

Pinellas County Jail records show Brinson with several prior arrests, including attmped murder of a law enforcement officer.

The most recent charges were in June 2012 for obstruction/resisting an officer without violence and disorderly intoxication. 

His previous arrests include strong arm robbery, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and distributing drugs.
