Wife Sought in Man's Stabbing Death

Police believe the 46-year-old St. Petersburg woman grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband during an argument. She drove off in a tan Buick.

St. Petersburg Police are searching for 46-year-old Sharon Byrd for allegedly grabbing a kitchen knife and fatally stabbing her husband, Russell Byrd.

The couple are believed to have been arguing early Tuesday morning when the stabbing occurred, police said.

The suspect fled the couple's apartment in a tan 2003 Buick Rendezvous, with FL Tag BKRS56. Sharon Byrd has family ties to the Bradenton/Manatee County area as well as St. Petersburg.

Police said there is probable cause for her arrest for 2nd degree murder.

A male acquaintance called 911 after the stabbing, and rescue personnel  pronounced the 43-year-old victim dead on the scene, police said. He had been stabbed in the chest.

The victim and suspect were in the apartment with the male acquaintance. The victim had a phone conversation with his sister, which prompted the suspect to inquire as to who is was talking with.

According to police, an argument ensued between the victim and suspect, which culminated with the suspect going to the kitchen and returning armed with a knife. She then announced she was going to kill the victim and then stabbed him in the upper body, police said.
