Woman Drowns at Fort De Soto Park

A 56-year-old Clearwater woman apparently drowned in shallow water near the North Beach picnic area at Fort De Soto Park on Sunday.

A Clearwater woman who was pulled unconscious from shallow water off Fort De Soto Park today has died at a St. Petersburg hospital.

Just after 11 a.m. on Sunday, a lifeguard spotted 56-year-old Michelle Dresser of Clearwater floating face down, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

The lifeguard performed CPR on the scene, and the woman was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where she later died.

According to deputies, the woman was at North Beach with friends and was seen floating and paddling in shallow water.

At this point, deputies say there is no evidence of foul play. The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.
