5 Things You Need to Know Today: Coffee, Tea and Live Poetry

There's a 'Coffee with the Curator' in the morning, a Tea Dance in the afternoon and performance poetry in the evening, at Cafe Alma.

1.) Poetry Jam Session: hosts a twice-monthly performance poetry jam session, with words as instruments. Presented by the group IV Poets, the session combines hiphop, prose and verse in a live performance. The show begins at 9:30 p.m.

2.) Coffee with the Curator: If you really want to know the details about the life and times of Salvador Dali, you can get them straight from the curators of the as part of the "Coffee with the Curator" series. Today's coffee talk–with free Starbucks – is with Vicki Brunner and starts at 10:15 a.m.

3.) And Tea for the Dancers: An will be held today at the Coliseum from 11:30 to 3. The first hour is for instruction, followed by taped music. But from 1-3, a live band will make the swinging sounds. Admission is $7, $10 if you want dance instruction.

4.) Williams Park Wednesdays: worked so well in September that it's being extended into October. There's free live music from 11:30-1:30 in the downtown park, where it's easy to bring a picnic lunch or to purchase from any of the downtown restaurants nearby.
