City Seeks to Limit Noisy Leaf Blowers?

What do you think, St. Pete? Should leaf blowers be limited or banned in St. Petersburg?

St. Petersburg City Council Chair Karl Nurse has submitted a new business item for Thursday's council meeting to discuss the use of leaf blowers in the St. Petersburg.

"Many cities across the country have adopted ordinances to reduce the noise from leaf blowers," Nurse wrote in a June 10 memo to council. "Ordinances include outlawing them for noise, air pollution, and street sewer pollution reasons.

"More modest ordinances sometimes limit leaf blowers to certain hours or to the “leaf” season which in St. Petersburg would be February to April," he continued. "I would like to open a discussion about possible options."

Nurse is asking council to refer the item to the public services and infrastructure committee.
