Construction will soon begin on another new downtown St. Petersburg condominium.

"Rowland Place' will be a six-story, 17-unit building located on the southside of 4th Avenue Northeast in between 1st Street North and Beach Drive Northeast.

City council unanimously approved the project Oct. 3.

According to city documents, the $3.5 million project will have 16 two-bedroom units and one penthouse.

City staff recommended the approval as well. "The project is well-designed and is articulated on all sides of the building," a city report said. "The project design enhances the pedestrian environment downtown. The public sidewalk along 4th Avenue Northeast will be widened to 8-ft and landscaped to city code."

Rowland Place will be located on the site that currently contains a one-story home called the "Henry Bryan House."

The house was designated as a local historic landmark in 1993 and according to the city the Community Preservation Commission approved the historic home to be moved to three potential sites in the city as part of the construction of Rowland Place.
