Kriseman Gets Another Endorsement for Mayor

Mayoral candidate Rick Kriseman has picked up endorsements from Democracy for America, former Gov. Charlie Crist and council member Wengay Newton.

Endorsements for St. Petersburg mayoral candidate Rick Kriseman continue to pile up.

Today the national progressive organization Democracy for America announced its support for Kriseman over incumbent Mayor Bill Foster.

Democracy for America, the organization launched by former governor and DNC chair Howard Dean, has more than 50,000 members in the Sunshine State.

"From his time on the city council to his service in the Florida State House, Rick Kriseman has built a strong record of standing up and fighting for progressive solutions and that makes him the best choice for Mayor of St. Petersburg," said Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America. "Democracy for America's 50,000 members in Florida are already hard at work knocking on doors and making phone calls for Rick and, on Nov. 5, that surge of grassroots support will carry him into the Mayor's office."

According to a news release, Democracy for America is encouraging its Florida members to volunteer and contribute to the Kriseman campaign.

Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist also announced his support for Kriseman this week.

According to SaintPetersblog, Crist called Foster's leadership 'weak' while announcing his support for Kriseman.

“I’m going to do everything I can to help Rick Kriseman become mayor,” Crist said, according to SaintPetersblog.

Earlier this week council member Wengay Newton officially announced his support for Kriseman after supporting Kathleen Ford in the Aug. 27 primary, according to a report from TBO.

That makes six of the eight sitting council members have endorsed Kriseman.
