President Barack Obama plans to address the nation next week in his continued effort to gain support for a military strike on Syria.
The address, set for Tuesday, Sept. 10, is hoped to inspire the general public to get behind calls for a strike against Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government in response to a chemical attack on civilians staged last month, The Huffington Post reports.
American lawmakers and other nations have given the notion of taking military action against Syria a lukewarm reception. Lawmakers, the Post reports, have asked Obama to build a case with the American public.
Obama has said failing to act against Syria’s use of chemical weapons would "send a signal to rogue nations."
If action is taken, Tampa’s MacDill Air Force Base is likely to take center stage in planning and executing a strike.
