Patch Poll: What Public Safety Issues Concern You Most?

We want to take the pulse of Patch readers as we lead up to our July 17 Pinellas County Sheriff candidates debate.

As the race for Pinellas County Sheriff heats up, we want to take the pulse of Patch readers.

Each week leading up to the Patch-sponsored Pinellas County Sheriff's candidate debate, we'll ask a question concerning the election.

This week, we want to know: What public safety issue concerns you most?

Post your thoughts in the comments section below, and don't forget to watch the candidates debate at 6:30 p.m. July 17 at Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater's Octagon Arts Center, 2470 Nursery Rd., or catch Patch's live streaming coverage. The debate is sponsored by Patch, the National Armed Services & Law Enforcement Memorial Museum and Bay News 9.

My greatest concern is personal safety. I don't want to have to constantly guard against my surroundings when I leave my home for local events, doctors' appts., or even something as simple as purchasing gas. I believe we need to step up local "beat cop" patrols, particularly at night.

Personal safety from violent criminal activity. It seems that first offenders are in the minority while the same culprits are repeatedly released to offend again. The system seems to be broken.
