Renovated Jamestown Apartments Open

According to the city, more than $1 million has been invested in the St. Petersburg Jamestown Apartments since 1976 when the apartments were built.

Tuesday St. Petersburg officials celebrated the opening of renovated apartments in the city-owned Jamestown Apartment complex.

According to council chair Karl Nurse, Tuesday's opening was a long time coming and is part of the city's commitment to Jamestown.

"We frankly had a morale obligation to renovate these," Nurse said.

"We’re making sure that we keep these market rentable," Mayor Bill Foster said. "And we want to make sure that we take care of families of low to moderate income to give them a quality space to not only live and enjoy to but to raise their families."

The renovations were completed in 16 apartments in two phases. Renovations included new HVAC systems, hardened windows and doors, laundry connections relocated to first floor, laminate floors, upgraded electrical panels, new kitchens and appliances.

"I think when you go in you’ll see a dramatic change," Foster said. "This is great living ... this is a family, this is a neighborhood."

Additional phase renovations are scheduled for more apartments in Jamestown.

"We’ll keep working on this," Nurse said. "It’s important (to) the residents here, the city has a commitment to finish this."

According to the city, more than $1 million has been invested in Jamestown since 1976 when the apartments were built.

The renovations unveiled Tuesday were paid for through city funding and federal grants.
