Rio Vista Park to Get Facelift

St. Petersburg's new Rio Vista Park will include a basketball court, picnic tables and shelters, tennis courts, a new playground and outdoor fitness equipment.

After approval from the St. Petersburg city council Aug. 22, plans are now moving forward for construction improvements for Rio Vista Park.

The new Rio Vista Park will be located at the former Rio Vista Elementary school site, which is south of 83rd Avenue between Macoma Dr., NE and Siquita Dr., NE.

According to city documents, amenities will include a basketball court, picnic tables and shelters, tennis courts, community garden, shell paths, a new playground and outdoor fitness equipment.

The project is expected to cost $817,800.

According to city documents, council approved $1.65 million from the Weeki Wachi Fund for the demolition of the Rio Vista Elementary school buildings and for the design and construction of the new park in 2012. 

Construction on the park is scheduled to last 120 days.
