Road, Sidewalk Closures in St. Pete Today

Some roads and sidewalks in St. Pete today will be temporarily shut down for two fundraising events to combat pediatric cancer and Huntington's Disease.

Supporters working toward a cure for pediatric cancer and Huntington's disease will be out in force tomorrow, Oct. 19, in downtown St. Petersburg. Both events are expected to have very minor impact on traffic flow.

The annual Steve Yerrid Kid's Fishing Derby features fishing, marine education and a parade beginning at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Later in the day, participants raising awareness in the Huntington's Disease Walk step off from Vinoy Park at 7:30 p.m.

Motorists may experience a short traffic delay around the Renaissance Vinoy around 11 a.m. due to a parade marking this year's Steve Yerrid Kid's Fishing Derby. That portion of Fifth Ave. NE in front of the Vinoy Place Condos will be closed to traffic until about 11:15 a.m. to accommodate parade units.

While traffic will temporarily stop along Beach Drive and Fifth Ave. NE during the parade; residents of the Vinoy Place condos will have access to the building from Seventh Ave. NE and Bayshore Dr. NE. Officers will be on hand to assist with traffic, though little impact is expected for hotel guests or condo residents.

Then at 7:30 p.m., supporters of a cure for Huntington's Disease step off from Vinoy Park. The walk utilizes city sidewalks, with participants crossing at
intersections when it is safe to do so. The route begins in Vinoy Park and proceeds north from Vinoy Park to 18th Ave. NE utilizing sidewalks along North Shore Dr. NE; Coffee Pot Blvd. NE; 21st Ave. NE; Cherry St. NE and 18th Ave. NE before the field returns to Vinoy Park via Beach Dr. NE; and Fifth Ave. NE.

Only minor impact to traffic is expected. Organizers expect the event to conclude by 9 p.m. For more information, visit www.hdsa.org.
