Swiftmud Approves St. Pete Pier Demolition Permit

If another pier design is chosen, the city would have to modify its permit with Swiftmud.

A permit for the demolition of the St. Petersburg Pier, and construction of the "Lens" pier design, has been approved by The Southwest Florida Water Management District.

In a letter to the city, Swiftmud said, "Your Environmental Resource Permit has been approved contingent upon no objection to the District's action being received by the District."

According to Swiftmud, anyone who objects the demolition permit has 21 days to submit a request for an administrative hearing.

The request, according to a news release, "must explain how the substantial interests of the person requesting the hearing will be affected by the District’s action and must state all material facts disputed by the person requesting the hearing."

Permits to demolish the pier still have to be approved by Pinellas County and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Should voters decide on Aug. 27 to stop the "Lens," and should the city choose another pier design, a modification to the water management district permit would be required.
