Gov. Scott Picks New Pinellas School Board Member

In December Pinellas school board member Lew Williams died three days after heart surgery. On Monday, Governor Rick Scott picked his replacement, Glenton Gilzean, Jr.

In December, the Pinellas County School District was rocked with the news that school board member just three days after undergoing heart surgery.

On Monday, Pinellas Superintendent John A. Stewart received word that Glenton "Glen" Gilzean, Jr. has been appointed to the school board by Florida Gov. Rick Scott to replace Williams, a news release said.

Gilzean, 29, of St. Petersburg, is director of an educational nonprofit called Educate Today.

In a district video interview, Stewart said that as of Monday he had never me Gilzean, but "We’ll welcome him with open arms to the Pinellas County School system.

"Come on board we are ready for ya," Stewart said.

Gilzean, according to a news release has served as regional field director for the Florida Department of Education and has acted as the liaison between Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Hardree, DeSoto, Charlotte, Lee, Collier, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties. 

"[Gilzean] brings a broad perspective to things. We hope that he will utilize all those skills and background to help our children here in Pinellas," Stewart said in the school district video release.
