On Saturday at the St. Pete Pier, a water ski show was presented in light of Florida's birthday.

thought it was time to bring back an old tradition that was lost somewhere between the 60's and now: water skiing. The show was a blend of modern water sports and a classic ski show.

The Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team joined forces with Jonny Reno's and the Pier to bring the event to life. Two shows were organized for the day, one at noon and the other at 2 pm.

Music from the Beach Boys, the Monkees and Neil Diamond brought a classic vibe to the water as their influence streamed through the speakers.

Water conditions were less than favorable. Choppy waves and high winds made for a competition in itself for performers.

The event was formed in honor of Florida's 167th year in the union. It was 1845 when Florida became the 27th State of the Union.
