Rays Block Party a Home Run with Fans

On Friday afternoon, hours before the first pitch of the Rays season, the city hosted a block party for the fans.

As the Tampa Bay Rays were preparing to face the New York Yankees in the season opener on Friday, fans were also gearing up for battle. Just outside the unofficial Rays watch party at Ferg's, two blocks of Central Ave. were blocked off for the celebration.

Longoria jerseys were plentiful, but so were the Jeter replicas. Of course, the Rays fan base was larger by a sum.

Live music, a DJ and food trucks lined the Ferg's parking lot. Games of corn hole and a dance off were in full swing along the main strip of the party.

About a half hour before the first pitch was to be thrown, fans with tickets to the sold out game made their way toward The Trop.

The Rays did not disappoint. With a walkoff 7-6 victory over the Yankees, fans had more than enough reason to celebrate.
