Rays Plan 9/11 Tribute Sunday

The afternoon game against the Red Sox will include a tribute to first responders, a message wall, and a steel girder from Ground Zero.

ST. PETERSBURG – Fans attending Sunday's Rays-Red Sox game at Tropicana Field will take part in a Sept. 11 tribute.

The Rays will mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks by honoring first responders during pre-game cermonies. There will be a giant American flag displayed in Tropicana Field's rotunda and a message wall, where fans can leave personal notes to first responders, victims and their families.

There will be a piece of a steel girder from the rubble of Ground Zero, and a demonstration of the USF robot that was used in search efforts after the attacks. The game starts at 1:40 p.m.

Sunday's game will be the third of three against the Sox. The Rays then play three games in Baltimore against the Orioles before heading to Boston for four more games with the Sox starting Thursday.
