"St Petersburg Half-Century…More than just a softball club" has been the theme of the Club’s 80th season.
The Half-Century Softball Club is continuing its outreach into the community. Prior to the beginning of the 2012-13 season, St. Petersburg Half-Century Softball Club held our Charity Golf Classic at Mainland’s Golf Course. This event raised $1,016 for The Children's Dream Fund. Ruth, the child selected on behalf of the Club, had her dream fulfilled.
In its recent food drive (Jan. 17), the Club more than doubled last year’s cash total; the final totals were $1,200 in checks and cash, with 540 pounds of food. Last year's drive resulted in 420 pounds of non-perishable food items and $535 in cash and checks donated by our Half-Century Softball Club to St. Vincent de Paul.
The Club’s community outreach includes its sponsors. Every year merchants throughout the community support the club’s efforts in publishing a brochure for distribution to fans who view our games at North Shore Park. Through the Club’s Support Our Sponsors (SOS) program, we visit such sponsors as Gigi’s, Sunset Grill, Midtown Sundries, Flamingo Bar, Ricky T’s, and Wilson’s Lounge. These businesses serve as excellent venues for evenings out for players and spouses as well as for players to gather after games.
Recently 28 club members and friends gathered at Siam Garden Thai Restaurant. Located at 3125 Martin Luther King Jr. St. N., Siam Garden is the first and original Thai Restaurant in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Siam Garden has been serving authentic fine Thai Food at this location
for over 18 years. Featured are more than a hundred items of Thai food to
choose from the menu Siam Garden, for excellent Thai Food.
Donna Callihan, wife of HCC Board member Mike Callihan, has
put together an awesome program of sponsor recognition. She works closely with our sponsors to pay back their contribution to our club brochure.
Support Our Sponsor (SOS) is great outreach to the business community.
Future SOS outings will be coming up. Friends and alumni of HCC may want to join us for after-game beers and burgers or an evening out with your spouse. You are welcome to join us for good eats and baseball/softball talk at these scheduled events.
Yes! Believe it or not, sponsors such as Dr. Brian Burke of Bayfront Orthopaedic Associates and Dr. Princess Benson of Northeast Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, Inc., have benefited from our SOS Program, too.
