LOMBARDI LEADS GULLS TO OPENING DAY ROUT OF PELS, KINGS RALLY TO BEAT CRANES AT NORTH SHORE.

Dan Lombardi had a really big day on Friday as his four for four performance, three home runs and a double, led the Gulls to a 19-2 rout of the Pels in the inaugural contest of the St Petersburg Half-Century Club’s 81st season. Rookie pitcher “Sibbi” Caliendo got a rude welcoming to the club leaving the contest in the fourth inning.  Loomis “Gibby” Gibson shut down the big bats finishing the contest for the hard hitting Gulls.

In second game action the Club’s top two pitchers from last season squared off and Scott Stein’s Kings staked him to an early lead. However, hurler Pete Beauregard, cooled the Kings in the middle innings enabling the Cranes to knot the score at 13 at the end of seven innings.

Stein shut down the Cranes in the eighth and ninth, while his team mates scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Stein managed the ninth with no damage to his team’s three run lead for the final 16-13 victory.
