ROBERTSON REACHES 2,500 HIT MILESTONE AT NORTH SHORE

Before Mike Robertson’s single to left field in the third inning of his team’s 18-13 loss to the Gulls, only three players in the 81 year history of the St. Petersburg Half-Century Softball Club had reached the 2,500 career hit plateau.

Robertson reached the mark in his 18th season as a member of the Club. Other members of this fear-some four-some took longer to do so. Robertson did it quicker than Hal Olver, Larry McCurdy and Darwin Shiflett, all members of the Senior Softball Hall of Fame.

Hitting has been the hallmark of Robertson’s 18 season career.  Currently carrying a .508 batting average he has lead the Club six times as season hit leader and has batted over .500 ten times. His .508 batting average ranks 10th for players having 1500 or more plate appearances. Records kept over the past 81 years show Robertson 4th in runs scored, 8th in doubles and 4th in triples.
