Inadequate Public Transit Increases St. Petersburg Parking Woes

St. Petersburg will spend $145,000 on a parking study this fall.  The success of a revitalized downtown St. Petersburg has created parking problems, and this study will determine if another parking garage is needed and where to build it. In order for St. Petersburg to receive construction financing, a parking study is necessary.

A lack of parking is not unique to St. Petersburg, it has become a problem throughout Pinellas County due to increased population and tourism. While more parking garages will help, a better alternative would be to increase public transit which would decrease overall traffic congestion. Thankfully, there is already a new public transit plan in place. It's called Greenlight Pinellas.

Greenlight Pinellas will increase bus services by 65% throughout the county, increase weekend and night service by 80%, add Rapid Bus corridors, and build a 24 mile light-rail line from downtown St. Petersburg to downtown Clearwater with 16 stations in between. This comprehensive public transit plan has been endorsed by cities, municipalities, and major businesses throughout Pinellas County. Get on board with Greenlight Pinellas. Learn more about the plan at the website. Vote yes on Greenlight Pinellas!
