Pro, Anti-'Lens' Groups to Debate Pier Project

The vote on the "Lens" pier design will be Aug. 27.

Grab your popcorn, St. Petersburg, proponents and opponent of the "Lens" pier design are set to square of in a debate Sunday on local CBS radio affiliates. 

Representing Stop the Lens will be Bud Risser and Bill Ballard. Representing the Build the Pier PAC will be Lisa Wannemacher and council member Jeff Danner.

The is the debate held on the controversial Michael Maltzan Architecture design. 

The debate will be broadcast on CBS' public affairs talk program, 'The Current', a news release said.

  • WHFS 98.7 FM: Sunday 6 - 7 a.m.
  • WHFS 1010 AM: Sunday 6 - 7 a.m.
  • WLLD 94.1 FM: Sunday 6 - 7 a.m.
  • WRBQ 104.7 FM: Sunday 7 – 8 a.m.
  • WHFS HD2: Sunday 9 - 10 a.m. (HD Radio)
  • WQYK HD2: Sunday 10 - 11 p.m. (HD Radio)

On Aug. 27 St. Pete will vote on the city's contract with Maltzan to build the "Lens" pier. Voting 'yes' will cancel the contract with Maltzan, while voting no means you are in favor of the design. 

According to a news release, the public can submit questions to be asked on air but must ask the questions by 1 p.m. Friday.
