Two Months Later, Pier Still Sits Closed

The St. Petersburg Pier closed May 31.

Thursday marked the two-month anniversary of the St. Petersburg Pier shutting down.

Since June 1, vendors have moved out of the space, an auction was held to sell off pier and pier business items and the Southwest Florida Water Management District approved the city's pier demolition permit.

St. Petersburg voters will get a say on the design selected to replace the inverted pyramid on the Aug. 27 ballot.

If voters support the referendum, the Michael Maltzan contract with the city to build the "Lens" pier design would be canceled.
