Bars Collecting Money Tonight for Aurora Shooting Victims

Tonight, various bars and establishments in St. Petersburg are collecting money to go toward the Aurora shooting victims.

Last week, America was rocked with the news that a man who called himself the "Joker" opened fire inside an Aurora, Colorado theater during a showing of the Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises". The shooting spree killed 12 people and left dozens severely injured. 

Tonight, various bars and establishments in St. Petersburg are collecting money to go toward the Aurora shooting victims and families. 

According to an event created on Facebook, Bars Unite will give away 100 percent of the proceeds.

"We are bringing the community of St. Petersburg together in support, this Friday, July 27, Bars Unite will take place in Downtown St. Pete at many of your favorite establishments to raise money for the victims of the Aurora, Colorado shooting which occurred this past week. 100% of donations will be going to COVA a non-profit organization the Aurora PD has announced that is helping them at this time."

Bars participating tonight include: , , T, , The Kitchen, , , , Wood-Fired Pizza, World of Beer, , , The Spot,, , , , , , , and Mandarin Hide.

St. Pete Green Taxi will also be giving safe rides and accepting donations. 

Lindsay Cohen, organizer of the event, wrote:

"We have all been working hard this week and are excited the community is coming together for a good cause!! Drink Specials are being posted and everyone is excited to take donations! I hope to see you all out and about as I will be jumping around to each location thanking everyone for doing an amazing thing."
