The annual bowl game will take place Dec. 23 at Tropicana Field.
The 2013 Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl St. Petersburg will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 23 at Tropicana Field. According to the bowl, the game will air live on ESPN and will feature teams from the American Athletic Conference (formerly the Big East) and Conference USA. "I feel the change in date and time work to our advantage from a timing standpoint as school is out and the majority of the workforce in the Tampa Bay area take this time off from work," said Brett Dulaney, Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl St. Petersburg Executive Director in a news release. The day's events start at noon and include an art show, live music, water ski show and cocktail party. Stone crab season will reopen on Oct. 15.
The commercial and recreational harvest of stone crabs in Florida closes on May 16, with the last day of harvest on May 15. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the closure happens each year during the species’ peak spawning season to, "help protect and sustain Florida’s valuable stone crab resource." Stone crab season will reopen on Oct. 15. Commercially harvested stone crab claws may be possessed and sold during the closed season but only if they have been placed in inventory prior to May 16 by a licensed wholesale or retail dealer, a news release said. The third baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays was spotted during lunchtime at the St. Petersburg restaurant on Central Avenue.
Evan Longoria fielded some tacos to go for the Tampa Bay Rays team Tuesday, when the third baseman showed up at the Taco Bus on Central Avenue. Longoria, 27, took his place in line behind a small throng of people ordering from the takeout bus window, then waited on his order. A couple of young women asked to have cell phone photos taken with him, and he patiently sat through the buzz that his appearance generated among people having lunch outdoors. When asked what he had ordered, Longoria replied that he was picking up tacos for the team. Old-timers recall the soft-rock duo, Loggins & Messina. Now there's Loggins & Maddon? Kenny Loggins, known for his 1970s and '80s rock classics, was at Tropicana Field on Saturday, kicking off the Rays Summer Concert Series. Manager Joe Maddon tweeted a photo, and he looks, well, a little starstruck as he poses with Loggins. Kenny seems to have scored a free Rays shirt! .

J.A. Happ has been upgraded from fair to good condition after being hit with a line drive in the face during Tuesday night's game against the Rays.
Tuesday night's Tampa Bay Rays game against the Toronto Blue Jays turned scary when a line drive off the bat of Desmond Jennings struck Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ in the face in the second inning. Happ fell to the turf at Tropicana Field and held his hands over his face while teammates and trainers rushed to the mound. For more than six minutes, Happ was face down on the turf before team trainers and EMS carted him off the field and to Bayfront Medical Center. Happ was conscious throughout the duration of the incident and briefly waved to the fans while leaving the field. The official alligator hunting season runs from Aug. 15 - Nov. 1.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is going to issue 5,000 hunting permits for hunters to participate in the 11-week alligator season. Alligator season runs Aug. 15 – Nov. 1. According to the FWC, alligator trapping licenses and two hide-validation tags costs $272 for Florida residents and $1,022 for nonresidents, a news release said. Each permit enables you to take two alligators from whichever county or body of water you were awarded during a specific harvest period. To purchase a permit, you must be at least 18 years old. The run will bring Tampa Bay's running community together in a show of solidarity and also raise money for bombing victims at the Boston Marathon.
Plans are afoot for a very special run to show support for the runners in the recent Boston Marathon, where two bombs exploded, killing three and injuring scores of people. The Tampa Bay for Boston Memorial Run is a non-competitive, 2.62 mile run scheduled for May 8th, along St. Petersburg's stunning downtown waterfront. The race will start at Spa Beach Park at The Pier. The run starts at 8:30 p.m. It will be preceded by a candlelight vigil (with LED lights), speakers and singing at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. (See schedule below.)
