Flowers, Gilzean Headed for November Runoff

Rene Flowers will taken on Glen Gilzean in the November general election for a seat on the Pinellas County School Board.

Rene Flowers was this close to avoiding a November runoff for the District 7 seat for Pinellas County School Board, collecting 47.89 percent of the vote Tuesday.  In the November general election, she'll face incumbent Glen Gilzean, who came in second in Tuesday's primary, with 15.74 percent of the vote. Gilzean is an appointee who has only served on the board since January. Had Flowers received more than 50 percent of the vote, there would have been no runoff. She said while "50 percent plus one" was her goal, she was not banking on the campaign ending Tuesday night.  "I was something I was hoping for, but always planned for the next leg of the race," Flowers told Patch. "It’s hard to even get the percentage we got in a five-way race." …

Bush, Santorum, Paul Added as RNC Speakers

On Tuesday the RNC announced former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will now be speaking in Tampa during the convention.

The Republican National Convention made a splash Monday when it released its initial list of headlining speakers for the 2012 Convention in Tampa. Today, the RNC announced former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, former Sen. Rick Santorum and Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin would also be speaking.  "I am thrilled to announce Governor Bush, Governor Fallin, Senator Paul and Senator Santorum will address our convention," said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. "As our party unites around Governor Romney, these four great leaders will lend their voices in support of his vision to get America back on track." The convention is Aug. 27-30 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. No times or dates have been set for the speakers. "This election comes down …
