Pet Rescue Street Festival Saturday

Thousands of people and hundreds of pups will be in downtown Gulfport for the 9th Annual Gulfport's Get Rescued on Saturday! Here's what you need to know before you go!

The 9th Annual Gulfport's Get Rescued fundraiser is expected to lure thousands to the city on Saturday, Feb. 23. The all day free event has evolved from one block and a handful of animal rescue groups in its first year to a popular and festive event representing rescue groups from throughout the region. Here's what you need to know if you plan on coming to the event. Daytime Event: Gulfport's Get Rescued is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Gulfport on Beach Boulevard. It's free to the public. Schedule of Events: Salty's Grand Opening: Salty's Gulfport is hosting a grand opening at their new location at 5413 Shore Blvd. in conjunction with the annual event and will donate a portion of the day's proceeds to Gulfport's Get Rescued. Humane Society Flooded During Tropical Storm Debby

The animal rescue group is offering discounts to anyone who adopts an animal as the staff tries to get the facility back in order, according to ABC Action News.

The Humane Society of Pinellas was flooded during Tropical Storm Debby, and staff there are asking for help finding permanent homes for pets who are now crowded into smaller quarters, according to ABC Action News. A spokeswoman told ABC Action News that all of the animals are safe, just wet and crowded. The shelter is offering discounts on pet adoptions and is also looking for volunteer foster families, according to the report. County Improves Living Conditions for Shelter Animals

New bedding, treats and music reduce the stress level of dogs and cats at Pinellas County Animal Services.

Piped classical music, a comfortable bed, and a personal chew toy filled with peanut butter are some of the recent improvements, to make life better for dogs at Pinellas County Animal Services. "The increased level of enrichment and care (more walking by volunteers) reduces the stress level of the animals, which improves medical and behavioral health and therefore adoptability," said Caroline Thomas, the Director of Veterinary Medicine at Animal Services. All of the shelter's dogs can now rest on Kuranda beds. The orthopedic beds are chew proof and easy to clean. Plus, each dog gets a personal Kong chew toy, which goes home with the dog when it's adopted. "The beds are easier on the paws and pressure points. They give the dogs somewhere …

A pitbull puppy who made a miraculous recovery after being left to die in a St. Petersburg canal is the special canine guest at a Pet Pal fundraiser.

ST. PETERSBURG - Lotus, the wonder dog, who made a miraculous recovery after being rescued from a St. Petersburg canal was the special guest at a Pet Pal fundraiser on Friday night. Party for the Paws! – held at Ferg's Sports Bar – sought to raise money for the nonprofit's emergency medical fund, which helps injured, abused and abandoned canines like Lotus get the intensive medical treatment they need. Executive Director Scott Daly said that the outpouring of support for Lotus, who was emaciated and sick when found, has brought new donations and interest to the no-kill shelter and veterinary clinic.
