A man accused of setting fire to his St. Petersburg home is now also facing first-degree murder charges, authorities said Friday. Greaves apparently died before the blaze as a result of multiple blows to the back of the head, investigators said. A hammer was found at the crime scene. Updated, 4:02 p.m.: A man whose body was found in an arson fire at a St. Petersburg home died of blunt force trauma to his upper body prior to the Wednesday evening blaze, investigators said. The man, identified as Robert Scott Greaves, 33, was apparently invited to the home sometime before the fire by Daniel Thomas Papaleo, who has been charged with arson in the case. Greaves fathered a child with Papaleo's daughter, investigators said. Papaleo remains hospitalized with a police guard, officials said Thursday afternoon. He has been charged with arson, but additional charges will depend on the outcome of the ongoing criminal investigation, according to a police spokesperson. A 26-year-old woman has been arrested in connection to a residential burglary. St. Petersburg Police say that 26-year-old Jessica Bianca Sowick also is a "strong suspect" in a series of fires and vandalism in the Causeway Island neighborhood. According to police, detectives have investigated a half-dozen arsons and several vandalism reports in the neighborhood since 2011. Detectives arrested Sowick Monday in connection to a house burglary at 181 79th Street South, the street where Sowick resides. After her arrest, Sowick was interviewed by detectives and denied committing the vandalisms or having involvement in the series of arson cases, police said. Detectives are investigating a Thursday evening fire at a vacant home that they say is the sixth arson in the same St. Petersburg neighborhood since October 2011. The St. Petersburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a vacant home in the 100 block of 79th Street South in the Causeway Isle neighborhood around 8 p.m. Thursday, officials said. The fire, which caused an estimated $5,000 in damage, was quickly extinguished. Two prior arsons have taken place at the same vacant residence, on Jan. 2 and on Sept. 4 of last year.
