The holidays often involve some drudgery and chores: standing in checkout lines, slogging through malls, idling in parking lots. But Christmas tree shopping is a rare exception in the yuletide shop-a-thon. Buying a tree often is a family outing. There's a sense of fun and wonder when weaving through the rows of firs and pines to find the perfect arboreal treasure. Tree shopping also stimulates the senses: There's the sight of all those timbered trees... the minty smell that tinges the body... the sounds of jingle bells, as volunteers seek donations or some jolly merchant adds to the holiday spirit.
