The owners plan to open a new, modern Columbia Restaurant at the foot of "The Lens" pier project in St. Petersburg in 2015.
The City of St. Petersburg and Columbia Restaurant Group announced Thursday a partnership to build a new restaurant as part of "The Lens" pier project. The restaurant plans include a new location at what's currently The Pelican Parking lot at the Pier's approach. The area will be called the Hub once "The Lens" project is completed. "We're proud to be able to make a commitment," Columbia Restaurant Group President Richard Gonzmart said. The proposal is subject to St. Petersburg City Council and a public notice before breaking ground, Mayor Bill Foster said. In an effort to raise awareness and discover a new challenge, Daniel Alvarez is kayaking 4,000 miles from Angle Inlet, MN to Key West, FL.
Nature adventurer Daniel Alvarez, originally from Tallahassee, is wrapping up a 2-day stay in Gulfport before heading down the coast on his journey to Key West. Alvarez is sharing his challenges, triumphs, stories and more in his blog predictablylost.com. He has traveled from the Angle Inlet in Minnesota, paddled through the maze of lakes in the Boundary Waters, navigated through Lake Superior, paddled the mighty Mississippi River and, currently is paddling down the Gulf Coast in hopes of bringing awareness to the preservation of our rivers, lakes and oceans. A new program at USF St. Petersburg will allow students, faculty and the general public to rent a car by hour, day or overnight. People can reserve one of two vehicles parked at USFSP through the new car-sharing program on campus.
USF St. Petersburg's new car-sharing program was announced Tuesday by St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster and USFSP Interim Regional Chancellor Bill Hogarth. Officials say the program offers an environmentally sustainable, efficient and cost effective alternative for students, faculty and the general public. "The students and the general public who weren't required to have a car to have a great time here at USFSP, they can get in a car, pick up a friend at the airport, bring them back to downtown, they can go to the beach, they can go around this beautiful city," Foster said.
