Fine Arts Friday kicks off tonight at 6 p.m. in downtown Gulfport. Stop by and watch local artists perform live demo's, glass blowing at the IAC and film screenings in the Alley of the Arts. That and much more in this week's Patch Minute.
Welcome to this week's Patch Minute! What are you doing this weekend? In Gulfport Stop by the First Friday Art Walk on Beach Boulevard in Gulfport. From 6 - 8 p.m. local vendors will be set up with goodies, home decor and local art. On the 2800 block you'll find local artists performing live demo's of their work as part of Fine Arts Friday, sponsored by the Gulfport Merchants Association and Industrial Arts Center. In the Art Village Courtyard, you'll find artists blowing glass at the Industrial Arts Center. Featured guest artists Doug Merritt will be on hand as well! Welcome to this week's Patch Minute! St. Petersburg The Santaland Diaries will be performed at the American Stage Theater this Friday and Sunday, as well as Christmas Eve. The hilarious comedy is written by David Sedaris and recounts some of the stories he had working as an elf for a Macy's Santa Claus. Welcome to this week's Patch Minute! Treasure Island The Sanding Ovations Masters Cup is going on now through Sunday, Nov. 18. Stop by the Bilmar Beach Resort on Treasure Island and watch the best in the business create art out of sand. The invitational competition brings internationally renowned sand artists to our beautiful beaches! At the end of the event, the sculptures will be judged and the top four sculptures and a “people’s choice” sculpture will be awarded over $12,000. The event will be going on all weekend and all day beach parking will be available for $10. Officials say the best time to stop by is Saturday and Sunday. Downtown St. Pete: For the nightowls and party animals, head to Downtown St. Pete. We have two events going on at Jannus Live. The Foam & Glow Party is on Friday at 9 p.m. and Sean Paul will perform on Saturday, Oct. 13. The Foam & Glow party will feature high-energy music, ultraviolet dancers and fire performers. From a 1970s rock band to a performance filled with 1950s classic hits, there's plenty to entertain music lovers of all generations this weekend.
We have music-filled performances for all ages in this week's Patch Minute! Downtown St. Pete We're starting off this week in downtown St. Petersburg. The Mahaffey Theater has a lot coming up including Grand Funk Railroad and Chris Isaak this weekend. Next week, we'll see the Go-Gos on stage as well. Tickets are on sale now for Grand Funk Railroad at 8 p.m. on Saturday night. Tickets range from $30 to $50. The 1970's rock group is celebrating more than 40 years together. Both old and new fans are encouraged to come out. Then, on Sunday, the theater welcomes Chris Isaak at 7 p.m. Tickets are from $39.50 to $75.50. Madiera Beach Come on out on Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and about 3 p.m. to watch skim-boarders of all ages compete in the End of Summer contest by the Overheard Surf Shop at John's Pass. Pinellas Beaches Everyone in invited to the Hands Across the Sand event on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The event is a peaceful protest against oil drilling off the Gulf Coast. Several beaches including Indian Rocks Beach, Pass-a-Grille and St. Pete Beach will have meeting areas.
