Benny Just Needs a Second Chance

Energetic Benny got bored at his first home and tore up some furniture. He needs a new home and a second chance.

Benny did get adopted, but things did not work out as planned. Rambunctious Benny tore up some furniture, and the next thing you know he's back at the shelter. Benny did not mean any harm. He just needs a patient owner, some training – and a playmate! It's not all his fault! Benny needs a home where he can burn off his natural energy. He needs a four-legged friend to help him work it off and/or an owner with an active lifestyle that will include this eager companion. If you have a dog who needs a playmate or just the right lifestyle or home, Benny will be the perfect pup for you. How to Adopt Benny is ready to go to his forever home. He is neutered and microchipped. The adoption fee is $35 and includes the first set of shots, a collar and …

Pet Pal Rescue of the Week

Can You Name This Breed?

He's not quite chihuahua, not quite pug. He's Rudy the Chug.

What do you get when you cross a pug with a chihuahua? A puhuahua? No. The answer is Rudy the Chug. This compact little guy has the comical personality of a pug and the shy boy demeanor of a chihuahua. He's only a year old but already is quite the performer, with enough charm and charisma of a dog twice or three times his size. If you want to find out whether he has the classic curlicue tail of a pug, you will just have to visit Rudy at Pet Pal Animal Shelter. But hurry over. He's sure to be adopted soon. Rudy is neutered, up to date with vaccinations and will make a great addition to any family. He does best with other pint-sized pooches. To meet Rudy, visit him at Pet Pal Animal Shelter,t 405 22 nd Street South, St. Petersburg Tel: 727-…

SPCA Kickoff for St. Pete Fundraiser

There were almost as many dogs as people at the kickoff party for the animal shelter's 3K Pet Walk in downtown St. Petersburg.

With a goal to raise $200,000, the SPCA Tampa Bay’s annual 3K Pet Walk got an early boost Tuesday night with a kickoff party at the nonprofit's Largo facility. The 3K Pet Walk, in downtown St. Pete, is not until Oct. 15. But it is time for participants to register for the fundraiser. Many did at the gala kickoff party, which welcomed pooches and their two-legged best friends. For more information on the walk, visit the SPCA website and register online. Money raised helps to save the lives of homeless, abused and neglected animals.
