Two Suspects Shot, as Car Speeds Toward Officers, Police Say

St. Petersburg Police say that the driver of a stolen vehicle tried to run down officers, as police tried to take the two occupants into custody.

Two suspects in a stolen vehicle were shot by St. Petersburg Police Monday, after the vehicle drove directly at officers, striking one of them, according to St. Petersburg Police. Officer Brandon Bill suffered minor injuries, when the vehicle drove toward officers, who were trying to take the occupants into custody, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. Shaquelle F. Sweat, the 19-year-old driver, was shot in the arm. A 16-year-old female who was a passenger in the car was wounded in the shoulder, according to police. Police: Drug Round-Up in Williams Park Underway

Following a three-month investigation, St. Petersburg Police started sweeping through the city's downtown area Thursday arresting people who face illegal drug charges.

St. Petersburg Police Officers are searching Thursday for at least 20 individuals from the city's downtown area on a variety of illegal drug charges, according to a press release. Officers began looking for these people around 10:30 Thursday morning. Officers are targeting the city's downtown area, including Williams Park, today, arresting individuals who face a variety of charges including the sale and possession of marijuana, methadone, morphine, hydromorphone, dilaudid, crack cocaine, powdered cocaine and heroin, according to police. In January 2013 the St. Petersburg Police Department's Vice and Narcotics Unit began investigating a number of complaints regarding illegal drug sales and drug use in the downtown area. VIDEO: Joe Biden Gives Medal of Valor to 5 St. Pete Police Officers

The medal is awarded to "public safety officers who have exhibited exceptional courage, regardless of personal safety, in the attempt to save or protect human life."

Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder presented the Medal of Valor Wednesday to fallen sergeant Tom Baitinger, sergeant Karl Lounge, SWAT officer Doug Weaver, officer Max McDonald and Officer Tim McClintick for their acts of heroism during the events of January 24, 2011. According to a news release, they were given the "public safety officer medal of valor." The medal, authorized by the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor Act of 2001, is the highest national award for valor by a public safety officer, according to a news release. Chief Harmon Announces Police Promotions

Maj. Melanie Bevan has been promoted to Assistant Chief of Police along with several officers being promoted to sergeants.

St. Petersburg Chief of Police Charles "Chuck" Harmon announced Friday several promotions in the St. Petersburg Police Department. Major Melanie Bevan has been promoted to Assistant Chief of Police. According to a police news release, Bevanis a 26-year veteran of the St. Petersburg Police Department, currently assigned as Major of the Executive Operations Division, Office of the Chief.  Bevan, according to a news release, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1995, and then to the rank of Lieutenant in 1999. In 2005, she was promoted to Major. Drive-By Shooting Suspect Arrested

Police have arrested a man and charged him with attempted homicide, a felon in possession of a firearm and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

The suspect who allegedly shot multiple rounds into a Pontiac Sunfire Sunday has been arrested by St. Petersburg Police.  According to police, they approached 24-year-old Rashawn Harold Summers as he left the Criminal Court Complex in Clearwater on an unrelated charge today.  Summers, police said, fled from detectives as they approached to arrest him. He was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. Police said Summers was wanted in connection with yesterday's drive-by shooting at 18th Avenue South and 22nd Street in which the victim, Julius Simons, was shot at least four times. Assistant Police Chief's Daughter Killed in Afghanistan

"This loss is devastating. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chief Gordon and his family during this time of unimaginable grief," said St. Petersburg Police Chief Chuck Harmon

Brittany Gordon, daughter of St. Petersburg Assistant Police Chief Cedric Gordon, died Saturday serving in the U.S. Army overseas in Afghanistan.  Police sent out a press announcment at 11 p.m. Monday to inform the community of 24-year-old Brittany Gordon's death.  "This loss is devastating. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chief Gordon and his family during this time of unimaginable grief," said St. Petersburg Police Chief Chuck Harmon in a statement. "We know that the coming days will be extremely difficult and we will stand by ready to offer our support to Chief Gordon and his family in whatever manner possible." Man Shot in Russian Roulette

Police were originally told the shooting occurred during a robbery, but later learned the shooting happened during the a game of Russian Roulette.

St. Petersburg Police say a man was shot while playing a game of Russian Roulette this weekend, at 1110 32 Ave. N. Police said they were originally told Donnie McLendon, 26, was shot during a robbery but later learned from witnesses that McLendon and two other men were playing Russian Roulette.  According to police, on Saturday morning at about 2:15 a.m., officers responded to a call about a person shot. Upon arrival, police said they found the house vacant with a trail of blood leading from inside the house to the outside. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were evident inside as well. A few moments after their arrival a report was received that a man had been brought to St. Anthony's Hospital with a bullet wound to the head, police said. …

Suspected Serial Bank Robber Arrested

Wesley Andrew Fox, 27, is accused of robbing two Clearwater PNC Banks and one in St. Petersburg. Authorities have not said if he is a suspect in a fourth PNC Bank robbery in Largo and the robbery of a New Port Richey credit union.

Clearwater Police detectives think they've found the culprit behind two armed robberies at local PNC banks. Wesley Andrew Fox, 27, is charged with two counts of armed bank robbery and kidnapping in connection with armed robberies at the PNC Bank at 2498 Gulf to Bay Blvd. on May 26 and the PNC Bank at 2575 Countryside Blvd. on June 19. Fox caught the attention of Clearwater Police after he was arrested for a bank robbery in St. Petersburg Friday. St. Petersburg Police arrested Fox after witnessing an unusual chain of events. Detectives say they saw him place something over his face as he entered a PNC bank at 3801 49th St at 5:57 p.m. Friday. A short time later, detectives say they saw Fox run out of the bank and to car. 14-Year-Old Murder Suspect Arrested in Tallahassee

The St. Petersburg teen is charged with first degree murder in the death of Jeremy Mayers, who was robbed, choked and beaten with a shotgun.

A 14-year-old St. Petersburg boy faces a first-degree murder charge after being arrested by U.S. Marshals in Tallahassee. Franco Harris Thomas is the third teenage suspect to be arrested and charged in connection to the July 8 beating death of Jeremy Mayers. Brittany Detwiler and Scionti Hill, both 16, were charged with first degree murder in July. But Thomas, the third suspect, had disappeared. The three teens are accused of beating Mayers with a shotgun, choking the victim and robbing him. Police found Mayers, 20, unconscious on July 8 in his front yard at 3632 Sea Robin Dr. The suspects allegedly had stolen Mayer’s cell phone, wallet and his green 200 Chevrolet Impala, police said. Police Looking for Bank Robbery Suspect

Police say he could be the same suspect in a bank robbery that took place Thursday in Pinellas Park.

A man walked up to the counter at First Bank Wednesday, handed the teller a note saying he had a gun and demanded money.  According to St. Petersburg Police, the suspect is described as a man in his early 40s, dark short cut hair, camouflage ball cap, black tank top with design on the front, denim shorts and large sunglasses. The police report said at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, the suspect entered the First Bank at 6850 Central Avenue and walked up into the bank. The suspect showed the teller a note implying he had a gun and demanding money. The suspect was given money and then fled the bank on foot. No firearm was ever seen, police said.
